Lazy Day Braids

Being British and all, we use the word 'plait' instead of 'braid' but I think 'Lazy Day Plaits' sounds a bit odd so I went with 'braids' instead. Anyway...

Everyone has those days where they just can not be bothered to spend a lot of time on their hair. For me, this is most days. Plaits and braids are easy to do, they look really great and they're perfect for those days when you only have 20 minutes to get ready (which, again, is me most days). This is my first tutorial-style blog post so I'm not sure how it's going to turn out; I'm not the greatest at instructions but there's a first time for everything. So, I went and had a look on my Pinterest board of hairstyles and got some inspiration for a few simple braid/plait hairstyles.

Side-Braid

This one is probably my favourite; it reminds me of Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games. When I first saw something similar to this on Pinterest, I thought I'd never be able to do it as it looks quite complicated but it's really not! As long as you know how to do a French-braid, like I've done at the top, this hairstyle should only take you five minutes at most.

Step 1: If you don't already have a side-parting like me (if you do, you can skip this step), you need to choose a side and brush it into a side-parting.

Step 2: French-braid your hair, starting at the root of your parting, down to around the bottom of your ear. If you need to, you can take a small elastic band and tie it around the braid to hold it in place. I, personally, prefer not to do this, I think it looks like it flows into the second plait better without it.

Step 3: Joining the braided hair into it, plait the rest of your hair as you would in a regular side-plait and tie a bobble at the end.

Easy, right?

Plaited updo
This was actually my first attempt at doing this hairstyle and it was really simple. I'll be using this one quite a lot now, I love it.

Step 1: Split your hair into two on either side of your head and plait each side like this:
Step 2: Cross each plait over your head: wrap the left one behind your head, towards the right and over towards your parting; use grips/bobby pins to secure it in a couple of different places to keep it secured all day. Do the same with the plait on the right but bring it behind to the left.
Here's a pretty bad demonstration picture:
Step 3: Use more grips/bobby pins to keep in any loose bits of hair. Try not to use too many though or you won't be able to see the actual hairstyle.

That's it, you're done! Another simple yet effective hairstyle for bad hair days.

Fishtail Plait
This one is probably the most difficult to do, it took me a few tries when I first learnt how to do it. It's also really difficult to explain so, instead of trying and miserably failing to show you how to do it myself, here's the tutorial that I used-  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZyZkowmdZv8. Once you've mastered how to do it, it's a really quick style to do.

Little Extras
To make your side braid/plait even cuter, simply tie a ribbon at the end of it; look at how great they look:

To keep my hair neat and tidy all day, I use L'oreal salt spray:
I've gone through quite a few bottles of this stuff; it's a really great product. Not only does it work as a sort-of hairspray by keeping my plait intact all day, it also gives my already wavy hair (or 'Hagrid Hair', as I like to call it) a great boost of volume and texture when I decide to leave it natural (which is usually when I wake up late for school and have 10 minutes to get ready). I simply just spray it onto my hair after having a shower, while it's damp, and then plait it. I do this before I go to bed sometimes and then take the plait out in the morning, give it another quick spray and I'm good to go. I seriously recommend this product, especially if you have wavy hair.

That's all for today. I hope you liked these little tutorials; I think I'll do them more often.

Ciao for now
xx
